ARC Raiders Headwinds: Everything You Need To KnowWe’ve entered the next stage in the world of ARC Raiders, and now it’s time to face the sandy battlefield in a whole new way. Not content with just bringing us a new event, Headwinds brought us a new matchmaking variation and even a project to work towards! With this new event, I’m sure even the most passive of lobbies are going to see a lot of fights within them. If you want to be prepared for everything Headwinds brings, you will need traps, guns, and even snap hooks. If you don’t have enough crafting options, it’s useful to know you can just buy ARC Raiders blueprints. The first step towards coming back safely is having good enough gear! The Bird City EventLet’s talk first about the brand-new event called Bird City. It only happens in the map Buried City, and it brings some changes that might not sound like much by themselves, but put together, they change how you approach this map entirely. This variant of the map adds a lot more birds (which act like sound traps to alert other players and ARC of your location), a lot more ziplines for you to travel along the roofs of the map, and more loot to find inside the many chimneys spread across the map. These changes make you change how you approach the map in a variety of ways:There’s a lot more verticality to the encounters. Buried City already had a few tall places to get onto, but it’s mostly comprised of houses that have been buried up to just below the roofs. The ziplines across the map ensure that your time at floor level is minimal. However, be careful, as you’re an easy target when moving across a zipline. The best loot is in chimneys, which you and about every other player know. You should hurry and get it, but be careful of the impending ambushes. Is this as big of a change as the Cold Snap was? Not really. Is it fun? Yes!Solo vs. Squads: Proving Your MightSomething that ARC Raiders would do every once in a while is send you into a squad match even if you were playing by yourself. It would frustrate players, especially because you couldn’t tell it was happening until it was too late. Well, Embark Studios decided to make this bug into a feature by making it something that you can opt into happening! Are you wondering why anyone would want this? I was, that is, until I saw what this mode is truly offering. You get a 20% bonus to your XP if you go solo. This applies even if you get eliminated, so it’s already very useful if you’re grinding out levels. It’s very high risk, high reward. Just think about it. If you manage to take down a whole squad of 3 players, you get three times as much loot. There are a lot more possibilities of getting ARC Raiders blueprints this way. It’s very adrenaline-inducing. Just trying to outplay and outsmart a squad of players is enough to get you to the edge of your seat even more so than the regular mode! This is intended exclusively for players that feel like they dominated the game and are looking for even more challenging gameplay. Which is why this mode is locked until you reach level 40.Trophy DisplayAnother cool addition that came with this update was the Trophy Display project. It works exactly the same as the regular project. You’re asked for items, you bring them, and then get good rewards in exchange. These range from cool items to ARC Raiders blueprints and even Raider Tokens! You don’t even need to worry about that awful feeling of being hurried with this because it’s not a limited time event. That's right! Take your time as you hunt down these ARC.This addition is really nice because it’s good to go into raids with a mission in mind instead of mindlessly wandering. Why Headwinds MattersSo what’s the bigger picture here?Headwinds isn’t just another update slapped on a live service game. It fundamentally nudges the way you interact with Arc Raiders’ world in three meaningful ways:Environmental engagement. Bird City adds a living, breathing atmosphere to the Buried City that makes you think about vertical space.Player choice. Solo vs. Squads shakes up how you approach the game’s PvP and progression loops.Purposeful progression. The Trophy Display project gives you a reason to revisit mechanisms you might’ve previously passed over.No player would’ve asked for Solo vs. Squads, but they still knew that a large number of players would really enjoy the challenge. This shows that Embark knows how to take in the good criticism of the game but doesn’t let it alter their vision for the game. The Community PulseAnd yeah - the community’s chatter about this update has been loud and mixed. Some folks are all in on the new modes and loot dynamics. Others think the solo matchmaking is niche or even a little out there. But even that noise is telling: players are experimenting, discussing, and redefining what success looks like in Arc Raiders. That kind of involvement - ideas, debates, excited screenshots, rooftop videos from Bird City - that’s proof Headwinds is more than a minor patch. It shifted the feeling of the game.FAQsWhat is the Headwinds update in ARC Raiders?Headwinds is a major update that introduces rotating map conditions, new progression projects, and optional Solo vs. Squads matchmaking, all aimed at changing how players move and make decisions during raids. What is Bird City?Bird City is a rotating condition in the Buried City where birds nest on rooftops and chimneys, creating vertical loot opportunities and increasing aerial threats. Is Bird City always active? No. Bird City appears occasionally as a map condition, keeping raids unpredictable and encouraging players to adapt. What is the Trophy Display project?A long-term progression feature where players collect ARC parts to unlock rewards like blueprints, tokens, and cosmetics. Why does the Headwinds update matter?Because it reshapes gameplay flow, risk-reward choices, and progression without forcing players into a single playstyle.Final ThoughtsIf you’re wandering through the Buried City these days, don’t be surprised if your senses are a little sharper. You’re listening for birds. You’re watching rooftops. You’re wondering if that lone Raider ahead just spotted you. You’re making split decisions about whether to take that 20% bonus XP or group up with someone who actually has your back. That’s Headwinds at work - subtle, strategic, and just unpredictable enough to keep Arc Raiders feeling alive.
